I’m getting into the nitty-gritty side of reporting. I know this because a) it’s my senior year of college and b) the textbooks have more words and less illustrations. I’m not complaining. I love reading these books because someday I will actually be doing some of the things in them.
Here is my stack of required reading for the semester:
That’s not even all of it. I have one more book on my list that is going to make my bank account cry a little and another I didn’t take a picture of because it’s one of those “loose-leaf” type deals where you have to put it in a binder. (Cheesy deal, if you ask me.) And that top spiral bound notebook isn’t actually a textbook. It’s my student planner. (That’s also required reading… I mean, I need to remember when things are due, right?)
Here are a few more things I consider required reading for the type of journalism I will be doing:
I know what you’re thinking. Those are magazines. Those are fun reads. And they are. (Cosmo, Glamour, Allure and Elle make up the majority of those stacks.) I feel like magazines are a requirement for me because that is my end goal. One day I will be writing for one. I may even start one. That would be so much fun! So I’m making them a requirement. It won’t be hard to keep up with these reads because I’ve been doing this my whole teenage-into-adult life. These are also all of my favorite magazines, and the articles in them are sort of my inspiration.
So, these are my required readings. I will be studying these texts hard for the rest of my life! :p
