August Play by Sephora Review

This month’s Sephora Play box was the “eye openers” theme. All of it was good. That’s just all there is to it. So many great, high end products that I most likely will never actually buy. But it’s nice to try them out, ya know what I mean?😛

Here are my reviews.

  • Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in I-544

Highly saturated, iridescent pink granite eyeshadow made with a unique gel-powder formula and ultrafine pigments for smooth color.

I absolutely love this shade. It’s so pretty, and it looks great when mixed with other earth tone shades of eyeshadow. Very long lasting, too.

  • Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Lengthening and volumizing mascara coats eyelashes with triple-black pigment and a buildable, creamy formula.

This is good stuff. It separates and elongates my lashes, and it doesn’t flake and lasts all day.

  • Clean Reserve Warm Cotton

Bright and pure blend of understated floral and musk, reminiscent of the soft scent of fresh linens.

This smells so amazing. Like a freshly washed batch of clothes. I’m in love.

  • Lancome Energie De Vie Smoothing & Glowing Liquid Care Moisturizer

Concentrated energizing liquid lotion visually relieves dullness, diminishes signs of fatigue, and promotes a healthy looking glow.

This smells nice. I need a product like this in my daily routine. Not sure this would be the one for me, but it is good.

  • Algenist Eye Renewal Balm

Soothing and moisturizing eye cream visibly reduces dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles with anti-aging Alguronic Acid.

Good stuff. Expensive stuff. $80 expensive. Needless to say, I will not be adding it to my routine. But it’s nice to have a little of it to pamper myself with.

  • Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof in Love Affair

Creamy, easy-to-apply pencil with long-lasting, 12-hour waterproof formula in a shimmery plum shade that was handpicked for you.

Love it! It’s not a shade I would normally go for, but it pairs perfectly with the Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow. It really does last a long time, too. You almost can’t tell it’s a plum color if you line your bottom lids with it.

Ipsy August Glam Bag Review

I wasn’t that excited about Ipsy’s August bag. I didn’t like the actual design of the bag at first, but it’s grown on me. I like that it’s durable, well made, and easy to clean. I may actually use it. As for the products, this month’s haul was the least tailored to me out of all the past bags I’ve received. But, be that as it may, it’s still a good haul for only ten bucks. I still approve.

Here are the products, their descriptions, and my reviews of them.

  • Marc Anthony True Professional Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Deep Conditioning Hydrating Treatment

Did your beach goddess days of summer wreck havoc on your hair? Instantly condition and restore it with this uber hydrating treatment.

This is good stuff. It tames my frizz and makes my hair soft and pretty. I’ve never tried Marc Anthony products before, so I was excited to try this. I give it two thumbs up.

  • This Works in transit camera close-up

This mask-moisturizer-and-primer-in-one instantly preps your skin for photo-perfect makeup. Posh Spice is a fan (and we bet David likes it too).

I love primers. It’s cool that this product is a three-in-one type thing. Works great, it just smells kind of funny. Like… pickles. Meh.

  • Beauty For Real I-LINE 24-7 Eyeliner in Black Magic

Black magic. This insanely pigmented gel liner wins our title for the smoothest glide. Simple to apply and easy to blend. We’re under its spell.

I love how easily this glides on and how deep and pigmented it is! It lasts all day, too, with minimal smudging. I now have plenty of crayon eyeliners from Ipsy to last me several years. Saves me a ton of money, so that’s nice.🙂

  • Beau Gachis Paris Pro Series Applicator Sponge

Sponge-worthy. This latex-free wonder is stiff enough for precise application of cream blushes and highlighters, as well as foundation.

I have no need for a sponge applicator, but I’ve always wanted to see what the hype is about them. They’re pretty nifty little sponges. I was excited to get one because I’ve always wanted to try, but never wanted to buy, ya know what I mean? They’re like… twenty bucks at Sephora. So yeah. If I ever decide to start using liquid foundation, now I have the perfect tool for blending.

  • NYX Professional Makeup BORN TO GLOW LIQUID ILLUMINATOR in Sunbeam

Oh, do glow on. Lightweight and lustrous, this illuminator hits the highlights and delivers just the right dose of shimmer and shine.

I thought this would be too sparkly, but it blends pretty well into my skin and doesn’t look too noticeable. I still think it’s a little bling-y though. I’d only wear it for nights out on the town. And maybe as an eyeshadow base.

This month was the first time I redeemed points for an extra product! I got Ka-Brow. Unfortunately, they didn’t let me choose the shade it came in. I wanted the darkest, and they gave me the lightest. Boo. But it still works. I love it.

July Play by Sephora Review

After months and months of being on the wait list, getting off it and then getting back on it because I wasn’t fast enough, I finally got off it it and received my first box from Sephora this month. Yay! The wait was worth it.

Each month Sephora curates a box of products directly from their shelves. I love Sephora, but I don’t really shop there a lot because if I did I would have no money and be homeless. But the Play by Sephora box is only 10 bucks a month plus tax. For what’s in it, that’s pretty awesome. The products are small sample sizes, but they are high end products.

Mkay, on to product descriptions and my reviews.

  • Nest Fragrances Citrine

Layers of fresh lotus flower and freesia mingle with bright citrus and a base of precious woods.

This smells amazing. I love the citrus smell. Unfortunately, a bottle of this costs $110. Ouch. So this tiny tube sample is probably worth $15. I’ll make it last.🙂

  • First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay

Foaming gel cleanser uses botanicals and red clay to remove excess oil, purify, and balance skin.

This has some good natural ingredients in it. It makes my skin feel clean and oil free after washing up with it. It doesn’t smell bad, but it doesn’t smell great either. I guess you know it works if it smells natural.

  • OUAI Wave Spray

Weightless texture mist gives hair an effortless, undone look while adding volume and shine.

Well, I definitely don’t have a problem making my hair look undone as that’s basically how it looks every other day when it’s washing day. But it does give my hair a nice piece-y texture. When I sprayed it, I thought, Oh this smells nice. And then after a second sniff, I thought, eh, this doesn’t smell that great. I guess it’s something to get used to. I have a sensitive sniffer.😛

  • Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer

Mattifying and velvet-smooth, this primer for combination to oily skin controls shine, minimizes the look of pores, and helps makeup last up to eight hours.

I❤ Smashbox. I love their primers. So I was excited to get this. I usually use these for my eyelids to help my eyeshadow make it through the day. So it’s good for that. But it’s great for my oily spots, too. I’m going to start using something like this more often for my T-zone, which can get really oily. I don’t really use foundation, which would be good to mix this with. I just stick with powder.

  • Beautyblender blotterazzi

Washable and reusable, this revolutionary cushion blotter is designed to fit into facial contours to remove shine and absorb oil without disturbing makeup.

This thing is so cool. I don’t know how I feel about a reusable oil absorber, but I guess that’s why you clean it often.

  • Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in Chocolate

Lightweight, buildable matte bronzer formulated with cocoa powder for a natural-looking – and deliciously scented – summer glow.

First off, IT SMELLS LIKE CHOCOLATE. Second, omg. Chocolate. On my face. I digress. This is too dark for me as a bronzer, but it’s great as eyeshadow!

So this was an awesome box. And the drawstring bag is just adorable. You guys, I’m going to drown in makeup bags if I keep getting these AND the Ipsy bags. But I love it. I have a beauty subscription addiction. I’m not getting anymore than these two, though. I wish I could.😛

Has anyone else signed up for Play by Sephora? What did you think of July’s products?

Ipsy July Glam Bag Review

I love, love, love this month’s bag design and all the things in it. This is one of my favorite months so far. That hand creme is number one on my list of products from Ipsy as well. It smells ah-may-zing. Anyway. On to product descriptions and my reviews of them.

  • bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Swag

A silky, moisturizing matte lipcolor in liquid form? Color us happy. Its smooth, precise application and sweet scent of cake batter had us at first swipe. Addicted, much.

First off, the coconut smell reminds me of my childhood. Second, the color is awesome for my skin tone. Third, I thought this matte lip cream would dry out my lips but it actually softens them. I love this.

  • Delectable by Cake Beauty Delectable lemon & cream ultra nourishing hand creme

Double your pleasure. Coconut oil and shea butter soften and nourish skin—while soothing aloe vera rejuvenates hands and cuticles.

This is the most amazing hand cream I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying. Seriously, this is my absolute favorite thing I’ve gotten from Ipsy since I started in February. It’s a big nice size, too. And the lemon meringue pie smell. Oh. My. I put this stuff on my hands and I want to eat them. It smells that good. I love this stuff.

  • Sedona Lace Synthetic Blender – EB 13

Not your mama’s blending brush. This powerhouse is the hands-down fav of the all-knowing beauty bloggers.

Nice brush. I like the purple-ish color in the brush. I don’t really mind getting brushes from Ipsy since it’s only ten bucks a month, but let me reiterate this: they certainly don’t go by my quiz in the beginning. I don’t check off brushes but I basically get them every other month. I’ve got a nice little collection going now though, so that’s cool. I like the feel of this brush when I hold it. It’s got a good grip.

  • Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water

Naturally soothing, nourishing and hydrating for every skin type. A refresher course for practically anything that ails you. Dive in.

This is so refreshing on a hot Mississippi summer day. I’ve tried products like this, but I like this better because it says it’s from France.😛 Jk. But not really. It’s nice to have something to bring with me that’s acceptable to spray at my face in public. Instead of just dumping a bottle of water on my face. Which is a waste of perfectly good drinking water. Thank you, thermal water springs in France.🙂

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto. This innovative peel-off mud treatment goes on white then turns silver as it dries.

I’ve been wanting to try this stuff. It looks like a shimmery silver piece of heaven and it smells nice. The tube basically has about two, if that, uses, which makes me sad but that’s okay. It’s good stuff. This is an expensive product so I probably won’t be buying it unless I stumble upon a rich relative or something.

There it is. Ready to see what my birth month brings from Ipsy. I hope they make it fantastic for me.🙂 Also, I just started receiving the Play by Sephora beauty subscription, so expect my July review soon.

Ipsy June Glam Bag Review

I thought I might not like this month’s theme, or the products, but when I finally got them it was a different story. I love the bag style and the material it is made of. And the colors aren’t too awful bright and involved as the pictures made it seem. On to the product reviews.

  • Colourpop Cosmetics Creme Gel Liner in Swerve

The super creamy formula makes us swoon. And intense color that lasts forever on the lid or the waterline? That’s why we just can’t quit it.

I love it! Got it in Swerve. It’s a nice creamy black, and it looks great on my waterline. It doesn’t smudge like other crayon eyeliners. I would definitely try other colors with this brand.

  • Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser

Major makeup calls for serious removal. This gentle cleansing balm—like nothing we’ve seen before—dissolves away residue and leaves brushes silky soft.

This smells great. I’m glad I have something to clean what little brushes I have now. But normally, this is not a product I have a need for.

  • theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Kumar

Triple milled just sounds attractive, doesn’t it? It means this shadow is super fine, making it smooth and easy to blend.

I was skeptical about this matte shade. I received it in Matt Kumar, which looks like a pinkish purple. I put it on and it made me look like I had a bad case of pink eye. This shade might look good on anyone else, but not me. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because smudging on a light tan shade of any eyeshadow with a little sparkle in it over this one will save it. That didn’t make me have to completely start my makeup session over, which we all know sucks.

  • BioRepublic Skincare Fiber Mask Set

Mmm. That’s the sound of soothing. These masks calm stressed-out skin and brighten dull, flat complexions, with results you see even days later. And did we mention they smell amazing? Even more to mmm about.

These are great masks, I’m just not a huge fan of sheet masks. But they’ll be a nice change when I’m in need of a good face pampering.🙂

  • Dirty Little Secret Cosmetics Illuminating Baked Highlighter in Bellisima

Cool tones for hot days. While most highlighters are warm-toned, this unique highlighter is a pink standout that will keep you glowing all through the night.

I love the shade. It works great as eyeshadow, too, which is most likely what I’ll be using it as most of the time. But I used it to highlight my cheeks and it gave me a nice dewy glow. I don’t really use highlighter, but this is an awesome brand.

#BloomVoxBox Review

2016-04-30 18.43.24-2

I got lucky with two awesome Voxbox’s in a row. The Bloom Voxbox was a nice surprise.

It contained the following products:

  • Not Your Mother’s Plump For Joy Thickening Hair Lifter
  • NUXE Multi-Purpose Oil
  • Cutex Nail Polish Remover Pads
  • Sinful Colors Nail Polish
  • Secret Outlast Xtend Deodorant

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

And here are my reviews of each of them.

The Not Your Mother’s Plump For Joy Thickening Hair Lifter is awesome! I didn’t really care much for the smell of it at first, but I got used to it. It really does give my hair a much needed lift when I haven’t gotten around to washing it. Not that I don’t wash it, I do, I just don’t feel like it sometimes.😛 The best way to use this is to spray it directly in your palms and work from the ends of your hair up.

The Nuxe Multi-Purpose Oil has a nice spring scent. I like to use it on the ends of my hair, since that’s where the most damage is. It makes my hair look shiny and healthy. Which is great. The sample size is too small to see any real changes, though. But it is a good product.

I’ve gotten the Cutex Nail Remover pads before, in the previous voxbox actually, and I loved them! They’re not harsh smelling like other nail polish removers, and they work great. It only takes about two good swipes to get even the toughest of nail polishes off.

I always love getting nail polishes to try. Sinful Colors is always a great polish, too. I got a nice bright pink shade, and it looks so cute! It doesn’t streak and goes on smooth.

The Secret Outlast Xtend smells good, but I don’t think it lasts very long. Compared to others I’ve used, at least. Maybe it was just a hot day, but I seemed to sweat more. Wasn’t really my favorite in the box, at all.

Overall, this was a great Voxbox! I loved the spring theme. I’ll definitely be buying more of those Sunbelt Bakery bars in the future, too. They’re delicious. I’ve tried other kinds since I’ve gotten this box.

Ipsy May Glam Bag Review

First off, let me start by saying that I am literally in LOVE with this month’s bag. Not just the products, but I mean the actual bag itself. I am in need of a vacation. This month’s Ipsy theme made me realize that I need to get away from life for a few weeks. Or months. Or years. Maybe someday I’ll travel to my heart’s content. Until now, I’ll make due with hoarding makeup.

Here are the products I received this month, their Ipsy descriptions, and my reviews of them.

  • Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow Trio

This shimmering trio of ipsy-curated shades includes Crush (beige), Skinny Dip (copper) and Lovely (brown). These richly pigmented, velvety-smooth eye shadows complement each other for a subtle yet glitzy everyday eye look.

The colors are neutral and flat, which isn’t a bad thing, but I’ve gotten to where I love a good sparkly nude eyeshadow. I still love it, though. It just takes a lot of it to make a difference and to really see it on my eye.

  • Vera Mona Eye Smudger Brush

Whether you’re perfecting your smokey eye or winged liner look – this Smudger Brush is soft yet firm enough to deliver the final touches on the eye look you want to achieve.

So, I really don’t know what to do with this, because I don’t want to smudge anything. I think it would make a better eyeshadow applicator. I don’t really have a need for something like this, but it’s a cute little brush.

  • NoTS 28Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser

Bubbles in this gentle cleanser burst to invigorate your skin, while cleaning out pores and hydrating skin. It works great on acne-prone skin and is gentle enough to use everyday.

I love this stuff. My face has been a lot clearer lately. It feels so clean after I use this. I looked up the full size version, though, and needless to say, it’s too expensive a thing for me to like. Ha.

  • Smashbox X-Rated Mascara

Smashbox is back at it again! This triple threat brush isolates and magnifies each lash, while applying its fiber-loaded formula. The result? Sky-high and defined lashes in just one swipe. Bonus: the formula is clump, flake and smudge-proof!

Love this mascara! It lasts all day and it doesn’t flake. It separates my lashes and makes them look super long.

  • Glamour Dolls Gloss Snob in Twirl

This pretty pop of pink is just what we need for spring festivities! The glossy sheen is smooth and long-lasting for any occasion day or night.

Putting this lipgloss on makes me feel like I’m fifteen again. It has a distinct coconut-y smell and taste that brings back childhood memories of lipsmackers lipgloss. And those are the best memories.🙂

Overall, great bag. I think I’ll always end ipsy posts with those words. I just don’t see me being disappointed.🙂
